The "perfect weather" streak for Local 894's Family Picnics was interrupted in 2008 with the 4th Annual
Picnic held on Saturday, August 9, 2008
at Cedar Park, just north of Bowmanville.
Thankfully, things weren't as bad as the weatherman had predicted ... there was no thunder or lightning!
The day started out sunny and hot, but by noon, the clouds moved
in, and by about 2:00, light rain started. By 4:00, it was pouring, but by then, most
of us were on our way home, with memories of good times at Local 894's Family Picnic!
Cedar Park features swimming, a water park, water slides, mini golf and a large picnic area. There were probably fewer
swimmers than in previous years, due to the cooler weather, but many members and their families relaxed and socialized,
played mini golf, took part in the kids' games, tug of war contests, and baseball game.
Thanks again to the Entertainment Commmittee for an excellent job organizing and delivering this event.
Entertainment Committee members Geoff Terrett, Brian Pomeroy and Paul Robitaille were in attendance and did a
terrific job, as always. And to the
cooks, former president, Lance Knowles, and vice president, Raye West, thanks for an outstanding job. They
were at the grill from 11:30 a.m. until at least 3:00. We appreciate all of your hard work!

Local 894's 2008 Children's Christmas Party will be held on Saturday, December 6th, 2008 at the Bowmanville High
School.
At last year's party, IBEW Local 894 apprentice Jason Chessar of J's Magic entertained the crowd with his amazing magic show,
pulling golf balls, coins and flowers out of mid-air, reading minds, locating a missing pet, and even
making a child float on stage!
This year's turnout was excellent. Many children enjoyed the face painting, balloon animals, tattoos and light refreshments.
The children had a chance to visit with Santa and receive a gift.
Many thanks, once again, to Cathy Ferguson for
organizing the entire event. Thanks also to Bradley Ferguson, George Ferguson and Raye West for their assistance.
