The Pension Trustees have made a motion to direct all reciprocated pension funds for Local 894 Members into the Registered Pension Plan effective January 1, 2009. This motion was made to ensure that that funds are dealt with in compliance with the current Reciprocal Agreement and pension regulations set by the Canada Revenue Agency. All members who work outside Local 894 jurisdiction for other IBEW locals will be required to enroll in the Local 894 Registered Pension Plan program in order to receive the reciprocated pension funds. At present the Canada Revenue Agency regulations do not allow reciprocation of RRSP contributions. The Business Managers are currently in the process of having a reciprocal agreement for RRSP funds approved and until such an agreement is approved the above reciprocation rules will apply.
New retirement kits from Manulife are available for pick-up at the office. Please contact Sue for additional information.
In the past the IBEW Local 894 Union Office was responsible for full reporting related to RRSP contributions for
our members on T4A's.
The Canada Revenue Agency recently conducted a review of the tax reporting system and has requested
that IBEW Local 894 no longer report RRSP contributions on T4A's. It is the Employer's responsibility to report this
income on their T4's.
We have notified the Employers of this change and members will see their RRSP contributions on the T4's issued by their
Employers starting with the year 2007 T4's. It is important to be aware that the Employers have been advised to
include the December 2006 RRSP contributions on the year 2007 T4 as this amount was not included in the year
2006 T4A issued by the union office.
