Local 894's 2010 Family Picnic was held IN THE RAIN at
Cedar Park, in north Bowmanville on
Sunday, August 8th.
The rain couldn't dampen Local 894's picnic spirits. We golfed in the rain. We socialized in the rain.
We swam in the rain. We rode
the water slides in the rain. We played games in the rain. We ate under the picnic shelter to escape from the rain.
We .... well, I'm sure you get the picture.
In spite of the inclement weather, we had a good turnout for the picnic.
Many thanks to Local 894's Entertainment Committee, especially Geoff Terrett, Brian Pomeroy and Gerry Scratch,
for their efforts in organizing and delivering another fun family event.
Thanks also to this year's superb chefs, Raye West and Randy O'Neill, and sous-chef, Dwayne Brooking.
We're looking forward to better weather next year!

This year’s Local 894 Golf Tournament, although smaller in numbers than previous years,
was a great success. Despite the forecast of thunder showers and torrential downpours, all who registered
showed up, and were rewarded with near perfect weather – NO RAIN!
For the second consecutive year, the winning foursome were Ron Smith, Roy Halverson, Brant Flaherty, and Tim Parsons.
The “Longest Drive Male” went to Pat Ralph, while the “Longest Drive Female” went to Joanne Grimshaw.
The winner of the “Closest to the Pin” was John Grimshaw.
The winner of the “Longest Putt” went to Tim Parsons.
The winner of the “Putting Contest” was Eddie McLean.
As in previous years Local 894 invited Golfer’s Green to participate in our event. Golfer’s Green raises money
for The Childhood Cancer Foundation-Candlelighters Canada, and our members and guests gave generously.
The recipient of the Golfer’s Green “Closest to the Pin” was Brant Flaherty.
The Entertainment would like to express our sincerest thanks to all who participated, and to all who volunteered
their time and efforts to make this a great day for all.
Instructors Patrick Doyle and Kerry Bell held Solar Photovoltaic training course over the weekend
of May 15th and 16th, and again on May 28th and 29th, 2010. Thankfully the weather co-operated and
