IBEW Local 894 News - July 2010

In Memory

It is with much sadness I inform you of the passing of Local 894 retiree Walter “Wally” Weir on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 in his 70th year. Wally was initiated into Local 894 in 1971 and retired in July 2006. We send our sincere condolences to his family, relatives and friends. Wally will be dearly missed but not forgotten.

Local 894 Golf Tournament

This year’s tournament was very successful despite all the threats of thunderstorms etc. We didn’t have as many people out as last year probably because of the threat of bad weather. The course was in great shape and everyone had a great time. On behalf of all the participants I sincerely thank the following people for donating their valuable time to organize this event: Tammy, Terry Dorgan, Gerry Scratch and Brian Pomeroy. You did an excellent job. We also wish to thank the following for donations to the prize table: Northumberland Hills Hospital Foundation, The State Group, Guild Electric, Robertson Bright Inc., Comstock, Black & McDonald Nuclear Division, Safeguards Technologies LLC, Challenger Electric, Local Electric, Gerry Scratch and John Grimshaw, Business Manager of Local 105 Hamilton and President of the IBEW- CCO. We also thank the staff at Wolf Run Golf Club for a great day on a well groomed course and providing an excellent lunch. I encourage everyone to enjoy the summer with your family and friends and hope to see you again next year.

EPSCA Negotiations

Our next meeting with EPSCA is scheduled for Thursday, July 8, 2010. Our conciliation officer will be present at this meeting. If a settlement cannot be reached at this time we can file for a “no board report”. At that time a special called meeting will be called for a strike vote. If the results of the vote give the negotiating committee a strike mandate the IBEW will be in a legal strike position fourteen days after the no board report has been issued. This does not necessarily mean we will go on strike, but it certainly gives the negotiating committee some bargaining power in negotiations.

Motions Passed at the June 24, 2010 General Meeting

The membership authorized paying the $350.00 entry fee for the OPC Ball Tournament and also the purchase of new ball shirts and hats for a maximum of $1,000.00.
