Apprenticeship Log Books

Effective February 1, 2009, you will be required to track and report your hours to the Union Office on a monthly basis. The first report, for the month of February, 2009, is due in the office on March 15, 2009, and must be submitted whether or not you are working.

The Log book is divided into two main sections. The first part is a list of twenty-seven “Work Experience Units” and four “Education Units”, with descriptions. The second part contains 60 blank copies of the Monthly Summary Report. You will use the numeric codes from the first section to fill in the Monthly Summary Reports. Once you have filled in the unit codes and hours, your supervisor would then fill in the Rating column and sign it. For your convenience, the Log Book also contains a summary list of unit numbers, a copy of your Apprenticeship Agreement, and a copy of the Tool List as it appears in the Principal Agreement.

The Log Book should be in your possession on the job at all times. If you are laid off mid-month, have your Monthly Summary Report brought up to date and signed by your supervisor before leaving the job site. All relevant training courses, with details, should be included on the monthly report as well. Failure to comply with this program will result in the Union withholding payment for your books and/or tuition fees for Trade School, and further disciplinary measures, as required.

We hope that you will welcome the Apprenticeship Log Book into your work routine. It will work to your advantage as a record of your apprenticeship and to help ensure that you receive as well-rounded a variety of training as possible. You may wish to keep a copy of your Monthly Reports for your own records.
